About Me

A Korean teacher with a Big Heart!

Hi everyone,

I created this blog for people who are interested in the Korean language and culture. I studied Chinese for bachelor’s and I got a master’s degree in Teaching Korean as a Second Language at Kyung Hee University in Korea. Since I got my master’s degree, I have been teaching Korean for 15 years at my own Korean school in Shanghai, China and here in the Bay Area.

I love teaching Korean because I enjoy helping people learn Korean in fun and easy ways. If you have any questions or requests, please reply to my posts.

Do you want to learn more Korean? Please visit my blog and Facebook page. Private lessons from beginner to advanced and TOPIK/SAT Korean available online!

    1. Hello…..could i get the audio for the folk tale story of heungbu and noulbu please. Thank you. Loving your website

Yunmi, nice to meet you! The blog looks great. I am a 25 year old American living in Seoul, studying Korean and dating a Korean girl. Really enjoying my life here. Your story is really interesting. Looks like your teaching has taken you all over the world. Thanks for the blog!

  2. I recently started to follow your blog, but am really struggling to keep up due to the high number of posts. By the time I have finally deciphered the first word in a post, there are already 10 new other posts!….(sorry slightly exaggerated)

I can see that your posts are fun and very well thought out, but to be honest, I don’t find it easy to learn through them. To me I feel they are aimed for someone who has already some basic Korean…

I was wondering if you can recommend a method how an absolute beginner can start learning Korean through your blog? With absolute beginner I mean, I can just about recognise some of the letters..that’s all…

Also, would you perhaps considered adding romanisation?

Sorry, I don’t want to sound critical, because I can clearly see you are putting a lot of effort in it, and I really appreciate that you want to help people learn Korean. It’s just that I feel completely overwhelmed by all the information, words and grammar in in your posts, that I just don’t know where to start…

    1. Hi Dosirakbento,

Thanks for the reply. I am realizing that WordPress is not good place for learning and teaching languages because it is hard to find older posts.

This blog was also for my students who are learning Korean at a school in Oakland and my school in China. And I am organizing my blog for my students and some people who are learning online. Before then, please bear with me.

If you just recognize some letters, I recommend you to watch ‘Korean Characters’ first. Of course, from the oldest to the newest.

I will slow down putting my posts day by day because I have a job now. 🙂 I wanted to build some basic information, now, I feel like it is time to slow down. 🙂

Thanks for the advice and good luck with your Korean. You can always ask questions on my posts.

      1. Thank you for your reply.

Yes, it’s hard via WordPress because of the posting format. I think that I will bookmark your website instead and go through the Korean Characters and beginners post from old to new 🙂

I did manage to decipher some of the Konglish words in your recent post though! They were really funny 🙂

Thanks and good luck in your new job!

  3. I’m really glad that I found your website that give Korean lesson.
I hope you will keep posting new lesson. 🙂

As you said above, you studied chinese also, right?
Do you have any website who also give chinese lessons?
Cause I’m looking for one, and don’t know which one website is good and where to start to learn…

      1. Actually I learn Chinese for 3 years in senior high school. But u can assume that I’m still in beginner level cause I almost forgot what I’d learned before >,<
Anyway, I can still follow the lesson! If I don't understand something I'll ask u for sure! 😀
        Thanks! 🙂

  7. This blog was a blessing. 🙂 thank you in advanced!

  12. Truly smart and generous teacher you are.. Thank you for sharing the knowledge you have in korean language to the world. I like the way you construct sentences in ..Very comprehensive and straight to the point which makes learning more easier and fun indeed.

    1. Thanks for visiting my website! I am so glad that my blog is helping you.

One thing about 덕분에 is that you need ‘good result’ after 덕분에 because 덕분에 means ‘because of’. So your sentence should be
